James M. Glickman, FSA, MAAA, CLU, FLMI, FCA |
James "Jim" Glickman is president and chief executive officer for LifeCare Assurance, and is chairman of the board for both LifeCare and its parent company, 21st Century Life and Health Company, Inc.
Glickman is a third-generation insurance professional with over 47 years of experience in the life and health insurance industries and is the driving force behind LifeCare's innovative approach to Long Term Care insurance product design.
Glickman is one of the architects of the Long Term Care industry as it exists today. He led the effort to form the Society of Actuaries' Long Term Care Insurance Section and was its chairperson in 2000 and 2004.
Glickman also led the effort to develop the Annual Intercompany LTCI Conference, serving as chairperson from 2001 through 2004 and as Executive Director of the Association from 2005 to 2020. He was awarded the first "Lifetime Achievement Award" presented at the Fifth Annual Intercompany LTCI Conference for his work to unite the industry.
Glickman was elected to be the Society of Actuaries President-elect in 2017, and then served as President for the 2018-19 term and as Past President for the 2019-20 term. He served as the Society of Actuaries Board of Directors Vice-President from 2008-2010 and as a Board Member from 2005-2008.
Glickman has authored many articles on LTCI including the annual Broker World LTCI surveys from 2000 through 2004, as well as articles for the National Underwriter, Best's Review, Contingencies, Life Insurance Selling, and Health Insurance Underwriter. He is frequently a featured speaker at national meetings discussing the Long Term Care industry.
Prior to founding LifeCare in 1988, Glickman held actuarial positions with CNA, Alexander Hamilton, Maccabees Mutual, Pacific Standard and PennCorp Financial.
He is currently a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
Jay R. Peters, FSA, MAAA |
Jay Peters is executive vice president for LifeCare, and serves on the board of directors for both LifeCare and its parent company, 21st Century Life and Health Company, Inc. He is responsible for all LifeCare day-to-day operations.
Peters has spent over 42 years in the insurance industry, including 23 of those years with LifeCare. Before being named to his current position in 2012, Peters served 10 years as vice president, chief actuary and four years as senior vice president, chief actuary for LifeCare where he was responsible for all actuarial and accounting functions, including product development, risk assessment, reserves calculation, investment compliance and monitoring, reinsurance, and financial reporting.
Prior to that, Peters was vice president and associate actuary at John Alden Life Insurance Company, where he managed product development, reinsurance administration and compliance for the life insurance division. At John Alden, Peters also had responsibility for the development of illustration software for both the Life and Long Term Care product lines.
Peters is a member of the Long Term Care, Product Development and Reinsurance Sections of the Society of Actuaries. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Pete Diffley |
Pete Diffley is senior vice president of insurance services for LifeCare. His role bridges multiple departments including Underwriting, Policy Service, and New Business. Diffley has been with LifeCare since 1989 when he developed the company's conservative underwriting protocols, a crucial process that has helped to safeguard LifeCare from poor claims experience. Diffley's background in the insurance industry spans decades, serving in high-profile roles in individual Disability Income and Life insurance underwriting.
Jorge Gomez |
Jorge Gomez is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Assistant Secretary, for LifeCare. Gomez joined LifeCare in March 2015, bringing with him 25 years of regulatory experience in both government-sponsored health care and private health insurance.
A former litigator and prosecutor, Gomez has also served as general counsel for health insurers as well as property and casualty companies. He served a term as Insurance Commissioner of Wisconsin under Governor James Doyle, during which time he worked on senior issues with the NAIC on Medicare reform as well as Long Term Care. He is a Southern California native and a graduate of Pitzer College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is Registered In House Counsel, a member of the Wisconsin Bar, not a member of the California Bar.
Julianne M. Sorice, CPA, LTCP, FMLI and ARA |
Julianne Sorice is senior vice president and chief financial officer for LifeCare. Sorice has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. Having spent over 15 years at LifeCare, she has led the Financial Reporting, Premium Accounting, Treasury, Payroll and Benefits, Human Resources, and Agent Administration functions. Prior to that, she held a Senior Director position with Zenith Insurance Company (supervising the Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Treasury and Investments functions) and a financial reporting position at Odyssey Reinsurance Corporation. She began her career in 1990 with Coopers & Lybrand in their New York insurance practice.
Sorice earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University, is a Certified Public Accountant, and has received her Long Term Care Professional designation from AHIP and her FLMI and ARA designations from LOMA. She has held Board positions at the West Valley Food Pantry and the International Child Advocacy Network, and has performed volunteer work for the ILTCi Conference and IASA California chapter.
Roger Loomis |
Roger Loomis is senior vice president and chief actuary for LifeCare. Loomis joined LifeCare in April of 2023, with 25 years of prior experience in the actuarial profession. Loomis is a thought leader in the long-term care insurance industry and frequently speaks at industry events. His volunteer experience includes chairing the Long-Term Care Think Tank and leading the Society of Actuaries' LTC Pricing Project that demonstrated how LTC policies issued since 2014 have stable premiums. Loomis was elected to the SOA's LTC Section Council for two terms. He was the lead author of the research paper “Understanding the Volatility of Experience and Pricing Assumptions in Long-Term Care Insurance,” which is now required reading on the SOA life insurance pricing exam. In 2019, Loomis was awarded the SOA's Presidential Award.
Loomis is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He holds a M.A. in economics from Michigan State University and a B.A. in economics from the University of Utah.
Iris Breeze |
Iris Breeze is vice president of Human Resources. During her almost 20 years with LifeCare Breeze's progressive HR carrier included all stages and fields of the HR spectrum. Today she is responsible for the smooth and profitable operation of LifeCare's human resources department. She oversees and provides consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development, and budget.
Breeze graduated in 1994 from the University of Applied Science in Kiel, Germany with a master's degree in business administration. Shortly after moving to California in 2003 and starting her position with LifeCare, Breeze became a certified HR professional with the HR Certification Institute.
Jim Rogers |
Jim Rogers is vice president and chief information officer for LifeCare, and is responsible for the advancements in application architecture, strategic planning, governance, security, and aligning Information Technology with business operations.
During Rogers' 24 years in information technology management at LifeCare, Rogers served for 10 years as vice president, technical infrastructure, where he oversaw LifeCare's security, research and development for new system architecture and integration.
Rogers has published multiple case studies including those on the subject of IP telephony, IP Recording, topology bandwidth testing and ISeries printing in several periodicals.
Prior to joining LifeCare in 1995, Rogers worked for a leading mortgage banking company.
Melissa Svoboda |
Melissa Svoboda is vice president internal audit and corporate governance for LifeCare, and manages the Internal Audit Department and corporate governance activities, including the Governance Risk and Compliance program. In addition, Svoboda collaborates with LifeCare's clients on their audit activities as it relates to their long term care insurance product.
Svoboda has been in the insurance industry for 27 years as an internal auditor, including 14 years with LifeCare.
Previously, she worked for 20th/21st Century Insurance Group, formerly a wholly owned subsidiary of AIG, Inc., where she held internal audit positions reporting to executive management.
Norman Seeman |
Norman Seeman is Vice President of New Business and Underwriting for LifeCare. Seeman's New Business responsibility covers LTC application handling from submission of the application through the conclusion of policy issue or the decline decision. For Underwriting, Seeman has responsibility for the overall underwriting operation, including people and processes, and the timeliness, accuracy and communication of risk decisions.
Seeman has been with LifeCare since 1999, starting as an entry level Underwriter. From 2015-2018 Seeman worked in the Claims Dept in order to broaden his LTC perspective and to be able to bring more knowledge of claim causes and results to help LifeCare refine underwriting risk decision standards. Seeman's hands on experience working with both underwriting and claims gives him a unique perspective in the evolving LTC insurance field. Seeman earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 2009 and Fellow, Life Management Institute in 2012.
